Tattoo artist
Maya Farrell's bio ~

•How long have you been tattooing?: I have been tattooing for 4 years!
•What’s your favorite type of tattoo to do?: Any day I get to tattoo is a great day, but I really love to tattoo animals of all sorts! (Bonus points if it is a magical/fantastical creature, or a beloved pet)
•What’s something you wish more clients knew?: It is SO normal to feel nervous about a new tattoo, no matter how many you have, or how excited you are for it - tattoos hurt, and they're a lot of trust! It's very important to me that you feel as comfortable as possible throughout the entire experience, so I encourage you to bring anything you want or need to feel prepared. If you have questions, no matter how small, your voice matters here, always!
•What do you love most about your job?: Creating as a collaborative process. I have always loved art in all of its forms, but the opportunity to create transformative art in community with others is one of the greatest joys in my life.
•How did you get started in the industry?: I have been an artist my entire life, following the footsteps of my mom! I began seriously working towards a career in tattooing when I turned 18, after having been enthralled by them my whole life. Being tattooed by wonderful artists who exemplified kindness, respect, and compassion further strengthened my desire to work in this career. I dedicated myself to drawing, painting, and learning as much as I possibly could in the hope of finding a teacher.
I first learned of Marigold through recommendation of a friend. I was lucky enough to meet Jes and Michael right before March of 2020, when the state shut down operation of tattoo studios due to the COVID pandemic. They really inspired me to continue building a portfolio and expanding my abilities in art! Marigold (along with the rest of Vermont's studios) were allowed to reopen that summer. I brought my new artwork back in, we kept talking, and in July, I started my apprenticeship under Jes. After around two years of everyday learning, I began my official career as a tattooer!
I feel very lucky to have learned with Jes, and to continue to learn every day at Marigold!
•What's something you collect?: I (lightly) collect garfield merchandise! My absolute favorite finds are from free piles (surprisingly, not everyone cherishes Garfield!)
•If you could have any superpower what would it be?: So, there is a right answer to this question and it is the ability to shapeshift. You can have EVERY power if you shapeshift. If that isn't allowed though my backup answer is flying, because that just seems like the most fun.
•What's your favorite smell?: There is nothing better than the smell of lilacs in the springtime!
My weird answer is dog paw corn chip smell. 🐶
•What’s the dumbest thing that makes you laugh every time?: When a dog gets their lip all folded in on itself so they look like they're giving you a nasty look. So good, every single time.
•If you could live in any decade, which would it be?: Honestly I would love to exist during the Paleozoic era. Specifically I think it would be really interesting (and terrifying) to witness the Permian-Triassic extinction event (LOOK IT UP!!! Biggest extinction event EVER.)
